The Booth's Mill Bridge renovation project restored this deteriorating,
163-year-old, three-span, stone arch bridge to its previous stature as a
useful transportation structure. An inverted concrete "T" wall,
with tension rods supporting each external stone wall and the arches, was
built internally to fortify the bridge. In order to eliminate future drainage
problems, lightweight concrete was used on the project instead of the typical
earth fill. Pressure injection, used to stabilize the structure's walls,
and general repainting, also helped restore this historic bridge over Antietam
Creek. |
